The Lady with the Pink Trolley - first attempt
Yesterday, a friend asked, so what happened to the thing you wanted to write … emm … blog. What was it
to be called again? I said “The Lady with the Pink Trolley?” So. As I had been
thinking about it – for years now – I thought I would attempt at writing, at
the age of almost 69 yo. (love this short form of years old :) The pink
trolley has been stationed, unmoving, in the room for several weeks now, not
seeing much action. Didn’t go to the market/supermarket. Didn’t go to the
library which has been under renovation for several months, I’m so looking
forward to going again this September. The 8 books in the trolley waiting to
be replaced by new books. One of my favorite places is the Petaling Jaya
Public Library; I am hopping happy to see the large English fiction section,
it will take me forever to read them all. All? Not likely because I am
actually quite picky about books I read. As I couldn’t get new books from the
library there were 3 things I could do to read: buy new books – which is
simply too expensive – RM70 for a novel which you read once is just not worth
it! re-read old favourites – yes can do, but for how long??!! rentals – found
an online book rental – YES!!! https://thejoyofbooks.com/ I borrowed 2 books -
I guzzled the first book THE PARIS LIBRARY by Janet Skeslien Charles –
delightful, unlike the usual books I read but utterly delightful and
eye-opening – never realized that a library could be such a sociable and
impactful centre of activities. The second of my online rental is hard-going.
The words are smaller and the paragraphs longer:( A CERTAIN JUSTICE by PD
James, who is supposed to be one of the most spine-chilling writers around and
“a national treasure of British fiction”. Makes me feel like a fraud as a
reader because I can hardly get through a few pages before walking around
looking for a glass of water to drink. Let’s see whether I can get through
this book, with its many accolades. Hmmpphh.
